Professional Development for Coaches

Coaches need ongoing professional development in order to maintain a dynamic coaching practice. As you learn, you pass on that knowledge to your coaching clients through new tools and processes. You will also use this new learning in future products and services you create. Here are a few things to consider adding to your professional development journey in order to grow into the best coach possible:

Self-Assessment

Make a regular appointment with yourself to reflect on your coaching practice. Look at your interactions with your clientele and determine areas of improvement. Examine if you are putting your strengths to best use in what you are doing right now. Routinely assess what is working and what is not. Mark it down in your calendar.

Mentor Coaching

Look for mentors and coaches for yourself. They can provide great feedback and support. With their guidance, you can gain new perspectives, refine your coaching skills and address any challenges immediately. Build relationships with those who can support you and meet with them often.

Learning Plan

Most coaches are committed to lifelong learning and staying updated on the latest coaching techniques. You can expand by learning new theories, attending workshops and seminars. Brainstorm the courses and certifications you wish to take and prioritize them. Create a plan for new learning to stay balanced so you can continue to grow your coaching business at the same time.

Practice Self-Care

Self-care may not sound like professional development, but it is. Being able to create your own self-care practices means you can teach others how to create their own. Mindfulness, for example, can help you fine tune observations around what you need next. Finding balance between your professional and personal life is important. Know what makes you happy in your business and what sends you into overwhelm and outsource it. Caring for yourself as the CEO of your own coaching company must be a priority. Naps are always a good idea!

Professional Development includes self-care! Take a nap when needed!

Coaching is a dynamic profession that requires continuous professional development. Maintain your own well-being, and create a plan that allows you to improve your coaching skills and grow at your own pace.
