Do you need a Landing Page or a Website?

Do you need a website or a landing page?

A first step for many coaches after they become a certified coach is to build a website. They are looking for a way to show themselves as competent and professional, a way to highlight their services and a way to keep in touch. But do you need one yet?

The Website

A website is a comprehensive, multi-page hub to host your entire professional life. You will typically find multiple pages about who you are, the services you offer, the products you sell, a blog, and a way to connect. The purpose of a website is to educate, sell and interact with prospects and clients. This is where many coaches begin and it could be unnecessary at first.

Website vs. landing page – know the differences.

The Landing Page

On the other hand, a landing page is more simple. It consists of a single page designed with a single purpose – to opt-in. With a landing page, clients can opt-in to a free download, to purchase a product or service, or to simply schedule an appointment. A landing page can be part of a comprehensive website, but it can also be a stand alone link as part of a targeted marketing campaign.

Which One When?

So how do you know when to use which? Websites are best used when you need to present a complete view of your coaching business. It allows prospects and clients to learn more about you because it will be more complete in telling the story of how they might work with you. It becomes “home” to your blog, videos, testimonials, a scheduler to book appointments, products and services as well as a way to get in touch. A website is the perfect solution for prospects who are still researching and looking for more information before making a final decision.

Landing Pages are used more narrowly and are usually very targeted. They cover a specific product or service only with a single call-to-action. If you want to sell a workshop or coaching package through an advertising campaign, you will find great use of a landing page. Need a quick way for someone to schedule an appointment? A landing page allows them to click the link and quickly buy that workshop or book that call. There are no extra steps between you and your client and the sale. Landing pages are far more simple and efficient.

A simple landing page is easy for booking discovery calls.

What’s Next?

We believe most new coaches are best served with a simple landing page for discovery calls and to schedule conversations with prospects. Unless you have completely built your packages, written your marketing messages and started blogging regularly, you can postpone building a website. You do need to buy your website address through a hosting company, but you will not need to build out a full website.

Think through what you want prospects and clients to do next. Do you want them to book an appointment or buy a coaching package? Are you looking for eyeballs on your latest blog post, or are you promoting a workshop? Decide your objective and you’ll more easily determine which is best to use. Websites and landing pages have distinct purposes and over time, you will likely need both. Choosing a professional designer can help, and making sure they understand your intention to grow INTO.
